EC Technology 22400mAh -vs- Anker Powercore 20100
Portable chargers are a great way to keep charge on all your electronics. From phones to Laptops you always need to recharge on the go. Here are two very high powered portable power banks that we have used an can compare. Both of these are under £30.
To find a budget portable charger that has a high capacity is hard so when we ordered these, we were sceptical about how good they would actually be. However, they have put up pretty well for the price!
EC Technology 224400mAh Powerbank
The first on the list is the EC technology 22400mAh powerbank. This is the cheaper of the two powerbanks however also has a slightly larger capacity. I have owned this one since Christmas of 2015 so it has been around plenty of time to have problems. I have used it all over the place, I have taken it on long bike rides, on planes camping and even to a music festival.
Lets start off with the specs, here they are from Amazon.com:
Extraordinarily powerful - EC Technology 22400mAh power bank, super high efficiency: charging speed is 2-3 times as charging through PC or tablets; it charges the iPhone 6S ten times, iPhone 6S Plus seven times.
Multi-USB ports - There are 3 USB ports avaiable (2.4A for iPad, 2A for Samsung phones, 1A for iPhone), it enables you to charge 3 devices simultaneously.
LED lights - The Built-in LED flashlight shows 3 modes: highlight mode, average mode and SOS mode. Four LED indicator lights show you the power level and charging status.
5 Security systems - Equipped with over-charged, over-discharged, over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection. Safety guarantee for your devices.
What You Get:1 x EC Technology 2nd Gen Deluxe 22400mAh Power Bank; 1 x Micro USB Charging Cable; 1 x User Manual.
I found that despite the 7-10 charges on the iPhone 6 and 6S it can only do around 8 full charges on my iPhone 5S. This is not a problem though as I am very happy to be able to get that many charges from one portable charger. This lasted me the whole week at the festival which was when I really needed it the most.
I like the 3 different charging ports with different outputs for each port. It also tells you underneath each port which is for which device. The LED light built into the charger is a good addition however isn't very bright. This isn't so much of a problem as it isn't meant to be a primary torch.
You charge the device through the micro USB slot in the side, the cable for this is included in the package which is a very good option.
The design of the charger is very nice, it comes in 3 different colour options, these are: Black & Red, Black & Blue and White and Black. All the colour options look nice and clean.
You can also buy a case for the powerbank (not included in the original price) which keeps everything together nice and tidy.
Most reviews on Amazon are very good however there is some issues with the device. I will go through my problems first then I shall go on and point out some bad reviews.
- My device has stopped charging all 8 times. It now takes me around 24 hours to fully charge it and once done so it uses its charge very quickly. The LED lights on top do not work any more and therefore I am never sure how charge I have left.
Amazon reviews:
"Bought this product in Nov 2016. Now the powerbank no longer chargers so i cant use it to charge anything. Worked perfectly for few months Disappointed."
"I've had a few battery chargers, and this is the one I've kept using. It's a really quick charge and can power up 3 iPhones each time. Brilliant and essential for Pokemon go UPDATE the charger has now stopped charging. It's only 3 months old so I'm really upset it seems to have stopped working. Don't seem to be able to return it, which is again disappointing"
"Takes forever to charge and is heavy!"
"To big and to heavy but keeps a phone charged even when gaming for hours on end note phone does get very hot."
"Takes a very long time to charge but once it is full it will last along time, I use it to charge my phone once or twice a day and it will last around a week before needing a charge."
Pros:
- When working it charges up to 8 times on one battery
- 3 charging ports for simultaneous charging
- LED light
- Nice design
- High capacity
Cons:
- Known to stop working after a few months
- Heavy
- Big
- Doesn't include carry case
Anker Powercore 20100
The second powerbank is the Anker Powercore 20100, this is a 20100mAh portable charger from a well known company Anker. I love the products from anker including the speakers, wires and powerbanks. They are very durable and good quality. The brand also puts a lot of work into packaging and the presentation of their products. I don't personally own this one therefore I spoke to my mate to find out what his thoughts are.
To begin with, he needed this for a music festival mainly but also for long train journeys down to his dads house in London (a 3 hour train) When on a train for that long on your own, you are likely to use your phone a lot and other equipment such as laptops.
Here are the stats and specs given on Amazon.com:
The Anker Advantage: Join the 10 million+ powered by our leading technology.
Ultra-High Capacity: Upgraded from the PowerCore 16000, it charges the iPhone 6 seven times, the Galaxy S6 five times or the iPad mini twice. Recharges in 10 hours with a 2 amp charger, phone chargers (generally 1 amp) may take up to 20 hours.
High-Speed Charging: PowerIQ and VoltageBoost combine to deliver the fastest possible charge (does not support Qualcomm Quick Charge). Recharges itself in 10 hours with a 2 amp charger, phone chargers (generally 1 amp) may take up to 20 hours.
Certified Safe: Anker's MultiProtect safety system ensures complete protection for you and your devices.
What You Get: Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger, Micro USB cable, travel pouch, welcome guide, our fan-favorite 18-month warranty and friendly customer service. Lightning cable for iPhone / iPad sold separately.
So to start with, as I was saying, Anker make sure they have a good relationship with their customers. They have the name for their audience and customers which is always a bonus to know that you are respected and thought about.
The powercore states that is can charge an iPhone 6 7 times and the Samsung Galazy S6 five times. It also gives different examples such as the iPad mini. This is a good idea because it givers you more of an idea for what you need the device for. My mate has used it for about a month now and gets around 6 charges on his iPhone 7. This is exactly what the website says it will get and therefore we know that true testing went into the product. The recharge of the device is around 10 hours which seems to be much faster than the EC technology powerbank. He tested the devices charging speed and said that within 15 minutes of charging he went from 62%-77% without using the phone in between.
This device has only two designs/colours; Black or White, however I do like how clean and professional they look.
This charger comes with two USB ports which is one less than the EC tehnology version however this is still enough for most people. It is also recharged with a micro USB cable, which is included in the package.
Talking about the care for their customers and the presentation, they also include a carry/protection case which I think is a great idea.
This one is thinner than the other and is also slightly lighter, which makes it more user friendly.
The Amazon reviews tell me that the powerbank is better quality than the EC Technology version because they have more 5 star reviews and less 1 star. However, I will include a mixture of each rating.
Amazon Reviews:
"I've had this product for a few months now. At first it worked really well, however it only charges to the first light now. It's a bit pointless taking it anywhere because I know it doesn't have sufficient battery life to charge my phone."
"I normally love and recommend the Anker Range to anyone and have done many many times!!!! However I purchased four of these and two of them no longer charger. Most disappointed, as they are normally an extremely quality product"
"I really liked the Anker core . I told my mates to get it. But after 6 months it stops charging anything"
"Yes it's a good battery but it only charges my Galaxy Note 4, 4 times before being drained and also as I write this review it has been on charge for over 12 hours and still it is only on the 2nd blue led flashing so it does not charge as quick as stated. Disappointed slightly to be truthful with the charge times."
"Great product! This really is the perfect long lasting power bank. I can charge more than 5 times on this gadget before it totally loses power. It will take quite long to actually fully charge it but it also takes quite long to drain it of it's power. It is quite heavy but if you travel a lot like me this is a total life saver as well especially if you rely on internet and your phone to go around a new city. This is a really good purchase. I am quite happy with it."
"bought the matte white version of this product as you can see in the photos and I think it looks very attractive and sharp. The product came very quickly and was packaged in a smart box with a useful guide. Included is a SMALL micro-USB cable, a black pull string carry bag and the product itself. On the first charge this product takes around 10 hours or so but after then it usually does a full charge in around 8 hours! The product also charges my phone and other devices FASTER than a wall plug! *Pleass Note the product comes with 25% charge* This is a fantastic product and will not disappoint you if your willing to pay the price. If something is wrong the product comes with an 18 month warranty and full contact details."
"I am now carrying this wherever I go, when I fly, go to work or anywhere that I am unsure if my phone battery will last me until I get back home. Can get multiple charges from it. Charging the battery takes a while, even when using the Anker plug charger. Leaving it overnight can get it close to fully charged. There is now an even bigger one at 26000mAh, but I'm happy with my purchase."
Pros:
- More durable than the other
- lighterweight
- High capacity
- Fast charging
- Very nice design/colour choice
- Includes carry case
Cons:
- Only 2 charging ports compared to 3 on the other
- Known to stop working after a while
- Still quite big
Which to choose? Well I'll let you make that decision, as there is pros and cons for each device. Just take a read through this review and comparison and you decide. We would love to here what you think so let us know any feedback! Enjoy.
